Omega Alpha Products For Horses – We Love Them!

There are so many reasons to love Omega Alpha Products for Horses! I have been using them for years even though I was a skeptic at first.

Maybe you use them already, maybe you have thought about using their products, or maybe you have heard of them but haven’t considered using them. Either way I hope I can give you some insight into some of their products I swear by.

Why Omega Alpha?

• Responding to Customer Need – previously MSM had been on EC’s banned substance list, they have since changed this to allow MSM, however, Omega Alpha responded quickly when MSM was banned and produced Sinuex Plus which is MSM free.
• What’s not to love – Right?!!!!!

We walk the walk and talk the talk when it comes to their products. As a result, I am going to share the products we use, why we are using them and what they do.

ULCERS

• Biotic 8 for ulcer prevention. Biotic 8  is an 8 strain probiotic that has an 82% population rate due to its specialized transit through the hydrochloric acid of the stomach. The live bacteria are encapsulated by a patented fibre and herb combination which protects them through the stomach acid so they can populate throughout the entire digestive system. This paired with the fact that there are 8 different strains of bacteria make Biotic 8 a comprehensive digestive formula. It is important to understand that the stomach acids main job is to wash and clean our food before it enters the digestive tract, killing as much live bacteria as possible, good and bad. Most live bacteria has a mere 15-20% population rate in the digestive tract due to the natural action of the Hydrochloric acid. One last important note about Biotic * is that it includes 3 very potent digestive enzymes. Protease to help break down protein, and amylase and cellulase to help break down both structural and non-structural carbohydrates. The better the breakdown of arbs in the front gut (small intestine), the better the health in the hindgut. When undigested carbs reach the hindgut, acidosis can be the result, sore muscles and build-up of lactic acid can be a direct result of acidosis as well as the dying off of beneficial bacteria which can be a vicious cycle.

• Gastra-FX and Gastra-FX Ultra are aimed specifically at horses that have tendencies to suffer from ulcers or stress-related stomach acidity. Gastra FX can be used as a maintenance supplement for overall gastric health. The Ultra is great to use at competitions and pre-travel. Horse’s find them really palatable and all mine really enjoy it.

• RegenerEQ – This is one of my favourite products and I have successfully used this on horses with ulcers with amazing results.  I have successfully used this product instead of Safeguard and Omeprazole.  A study done of 16 horses with ulcers at UPEI showed that there was almost a 90% healing of the ulcers when they were given RegenerEQ.  I can honestly say that the results in our horses would seem to match this because we have had amazing results.  Omega Alpha doesn't market this product for ulcers but I can certainly recommend it.

TRAVEL

Travel can be stressful for a horse so I use Omega Alpha products to help make sure my horse remains in good health.

Prior To Travel:

60cc of Chill a day for 2-3 days before traveling

Biotic 8 and Equisel are also a good idea for the week prior to travel.

The day of travel before leaving :

GastraFX comes in a convenient tube of paste and acts similarly to the saliva, creating a bicarbonate buffer to stomach acid. GastraFX works similarly to buffer the acid and also to soothe the gut as it has many herbs such as Marshmallow Root, Liccorish, Root Ginger, and Slippery Elm. These help to keep the tummy happy during travel.

Chill Ultra also comes in a convenient tube of paste. This helps the horse keep calm and relaxed during travel and can lessen the stress both on the body and mind.

RegenerEQ is one of my favorite go-to’s. It can also be bought in a convenient tube of paste. Many horses will lose their appetite during travel. This product stimulates the appetite.

Do not give electrolytes during a trip unless advised by a vet. This is for before and after travel.

Biotic 8 in feed during the trip will also help keep your horses' gut happy and moving.

When you arrive at your destination:

Equisel Lt will help replace lost electrolytes and the added Amino acids can help rebuild lost muscle during the trip

MinerEQ helps to replace lost vitamins and minerals during the trip

RegenerEQ will help stimulate the horses' appetite. We have had horses travel on long trips and faired pretty well, however, when we get to the destination I have found the have a complete lack of appetite and don’t seem themselves.

I give them RegenerEQ as advised on the tube and they bounce right back within a few hours. I generally keep giving them this for a day or two afterward and I always keep it on hand.

I am in the showjumping field so the following is based on what we would use at the competition:

Enduragin daily – an adaptation – adaptations help the body to find its balance. If a horse is struggling with hot temperatures, stress, or is lethargic, adaptogenic herbs help to energize and bring the horse up. If the horse is already heightened from stress, adaptogenic herbs can help the horse deal with stress and calm them. Adaptogenic herbs have also been known to help with biological repairs to the internal body systems.

Endura Force paste can help provide more energy to muscles and body improving performance

Equisel Lt will provide mineral salts and electrolytes as well as branched-chain amino acids – a muscle rebuilder and repair catalyst for damaged muscle cells.

Antiflam contains herbs that are known to relieve inflammation in the body. By reducing inflammation in the muscles you can allow new fresh blood to reach the muscles at a higher rate and take away lactic acid and other impurities allowing the muscles to heal and repair faster.

Tetra Spray is a lineament that is a heavy hitter in muscle repair and healing. It stimulates blood flow and stimulation to both muscle and tissue to speed up repair and remove lactic acid. It's also great to use for packing hooves for sore feet.
